As a multi-business owner, I use profanity often... in meetings, trainings, conversations, whatever. Even when conducting business with other business owners, it’s an everyday language for me. However, I would never use profanity in the manner Uber Founder/CEO Travis Kalanick did with driver Fawzi Kamel who works for and represents his company. Uber is a company valued at $66 billion and the world’s leading ride-sharing service app.
Recently, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick received a ton of criticism for the way he treated an Uber driver on Super Bowl Sunday in an exchange caught on video. Most of the negative publicity has focused on Kalanick's high-handed attitude with the driver. Kalanick has published an apology and promised to "fundamentally change" how he works as a leader.
If he treats drivers this way who worked for his company in its beginning phases, is he all about profits and not service not employee retention? Your company is only as good as those who work for it. If employees are disgruntled, what type of attitude will they have towards clients? Respect your employees and honor them. They represent your company and can ultimately destroy it. Most of the time it’s not what you say but how you say it- delivery is key.
Several Uber drivers recently discussed that the argument Fawzi Kamel was trying to make is actually correct: Uber has changed its compensation policies over time, often to the detriment of it’s drivers.
An analysis of leaked Uber financial data shows Uber has increased its "take" of driver fares from 17% to 31%. We learned that Kalanick has less power over the price of Uber's fares than an observer might think: The company struggles to keep prices high, a fact that CEO Travis Kalanick alludes to in the video.
Many Blacks utilize Uber services. However, many are unaware of a Black-owned ridesharing app service called Moovn (pronounced[moo-ving]) .
Look for our upcoming article on the interview of Moovn’s founder/developer Godwin Gabriel.
